Who We Are
Rural Finance Initiative (RUFI) is a cross-border microfinance institution operating in both South Sudan since 2008 and Uganda since 2017. RUFI has over 15 Years of Post-conflict microfinance experience in addition to 6 Years of Refugee Finance in Uganda offering a range of finance products including agent banking and money transfers throughout our network of branches in South Sudan and Uganda
Understanding the dynamic nature of refugee situations, RUFI has developed strategic initiatives to extend our services to returning refugees from Uganda. As these individuals reintegrate into their home communities, we provide them with the same high-quality financial services, including loans, savings accounts, and capacity-building programs. This support is crucial for their successful assimilation, enabling them to rebuild their lives, start businesses, and contribute to the local economy.
In collaboration with the Grameen Foundation, we are leading the digital transformation of our operations, focusing specifically on Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). Through this initiative, VSLA groups receive smartphones integrated with a dedicated management application. This innovative approach is designed to streamline our processes, foster greater transparency, and improve accessibility to financial services. By leveraging technology, we are committed to empowering communities and advancing our goal of elevating living standards through inclusive and sustainable financial solutions.
